Arrowsmith Agricultural Association
GENERAL INFORMATION
Dogs are not permitted, with the exception of Certified Guide and
Assistance dogs. Smoking is strictly prohibited in barn and exhibit
areas. Smoking permitted only in designated areas. Alcohol
consumption is prohibited.
AWARDS:
1. Prizes will not be awarded unless considered worthy of merit.
The judges' decision is final. Prize money will be paid in accordance
with judges' decision.
2. See the section on Judging, #2, #3, & #4.
3. All ribbons & awards must be displayed during the Fair.
4. Should there be insufficient funds to pay prizes in full they
will be paid pro-rata.
5. PRIZE MONEY SHALL BE FORFEITED by any exhibitor who removes any
exhibit(s) in any section or display before 5:00 pm on Sunday, the
last day of the Fair.
6. Prize money will be paid at the fair office on Saturday afternoon
for non-livestock prize winners, and on Sunday afternoon for all
livestock prize winners as well as non-livestock winners. 4-H prize
money will be mailed to club leaders.
7. Cheques will be mailed to winners unable to collect their
winnings in person, provided the total is $10.00 or more. Cheques
will not be mailed for amounts under $10.00. Prize money not picked
up will be considered a donation to the fair. All cheques must be
cashed by December 31 of the current year.
8. The Association will not be responsible for non-payment of prize
money offered by others.
9. Points won by a junior in an adult section will not be credited
in a junior section.
10. Complaints re: non-payment or mis-payment of prize money must be
registered with the fair secretary by October 31, the same year of
the fair.
ENTRIES:
1. The "Entry" refers to the written entries pre-registered on the
entry forms provided by the Coombs Fair, or a reasonable facsimile.
2. Entry fees are shown below division headings.
3. One (1) entry per person per class unless otherwise stated.
4. One 'entry form' per exhibitor. Livestock must be entered on a
separate entry form from non-livestock entries even if entered by the
same exhibitor. Poultry entries must be on a poultry entry form.
Horse show entries must use a Horse Entry Form. 4-H must use 4-H
entry forms or club members can be listed with age and all classes to
be entered in on a separate piece of paper.
5. Entry forms for children and seniors must state age of exhibitor.
6. Entry fees must accompany entry forms. Entry forms can be mailed
or hand delivered and must be received as follows:
POULTRY & LIVESTOCK: on or before the Saturday one week prior to the
start of the Fair. Entries received after this date are subject to a
late charge of $.50 per entry in poultry and $1.00 per entry in
livestock. No post livestock entries after 8:00 pm Friday before the
Fair.
HORTICULTURE, FLOWERS, ARTS & CRAFTS, NEEDLE- WORK, PHOTOGRAPHY,
DOMESTIC SCIENCE: on or before Wednesday prior to the start of the
Fair. Entries received after 5 pm on Wednesday before the Fair will
be charged a late fee of $.50 per entry.
7. Entry forms with entry fees can be mailed to the
Fair Secretary,

or hand delivered to the drop box
beside the main doors of the Fair Office as early as they are ready,
or brought in person to the Fair Office during office hours the week
prior to the start of the Fair.
8. OFFICE HOURS:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 10 am - 5 pm
Thursday
10 am - 8pm.
Friday 8 am to 8 pm.
9. No entry fees will be refunded.
EXHIBITS:
1. The word "Exhibit" refers to the actual article, item or animal
being exhibited for competition.
2. Exhibits must be on the grounds as follows:
ARTS & CRAFTS, PHOTOGRAPHY: on Thursday before the Fair from 6-8:00
p.m. Articles cannot be accepted on Friday.
NEEDLEWORK, HORTICULTURE, FLOWERS, DOMESTIC SCIENCE: on Thursday
from 6-8:00 p.m. or by 9:30 a.m. Friday.
Judging of the above sections begins at 10:00 am sharp on Friday.
LIVESTOCK: on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
POULTRY: on Thursday from 6-9 p.m or by 9 a.m. Friday.
RABBITS & Guinea Pigs: 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. Friday.
Poultry, including the poultry in the Boys & Girls section, are
judged on Friday morning. All other livestock judged during the Fair.
3. All exhibits must be made or grown by and be the property of the
exhibitor. In Arts & Crafts and Needlework, exhibits must have been
made by the exhibitor within three (3) years of the date of the fair,
and not have been previously exhibited for competition at the Coombs
Fair.
Livestock must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor, and have
been in the exhibitor's possession not less than 30 days prior to the
fair.
4. One (1) exhibit per class per exhibitor unless otherwise stated.
Livestock and poultry exhibitors may enter more than one exhibit per
class.
5. Exhibits may not be removed from any exhibit or display until
5:00 p.m. on Sunday, the last day of the Fair, unless by special
permission of the director in charge. (See awards section, #5 & #6)
JUDGING:
1. Any person interfering with or attempting to influence a judge,
or using abusive language towards a judge, shall forfeit any prize
money to which he/she may have been entitled.
2. If there are at least three (3) exhibits of similar type entered
in 'any other', a separate class may be created as determined by the
judge.
3. If there are five (5) or more exhibits in a class, a third prize
will be paid. If there are fewer than three (3) exhibits in a class,
no second prize will be given unless the judge feels it is warranted.
4. Judges may withhold any prize where the exhibits are of
insufficient merit, or they may substitute a 'Highly Commended' card
in lieu of a prize award.
LIABILITIES & OBLIGATIONS:
1. The Arrowsmith Agricultural Association will take every
precaution to ensure the safety of exhibits entered in the Coombs
Fair, but the owners themselves must take the risk of entering them,
and should any exhibit in whole or part be damaged, injured or
stolen, the Association WILL NOT be liable for the value thereof.
Exhibit buildings are under supervision during the hours open to the
public and buildings are locked at all other times. A Night Watchman
is on the grounds Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
2. Exhibitors of animals, machinery in motion, and other exhibits
that could cause injury, accident, or damage to property or to a
person coming in contact with the exhibit shall guard their exhibits
to protect the public from coming into contact with them.
3. Every exhibitor shall indemnify the Association from and against
all claims, demands, costs, damage of property, which may occur from
injury, accident or damage of property to exhibits being improperly
guarded, or the public not being properly guarded from.
4. Each exhibitor shall assume the responsibility for any injury
occurring to himself, or his assistants, while exhibiting or
performing.
5. Any protests must be made in writing to the president or
secretary before 5:00 p.m. on the last day of the fair with a deposit
of $25.00. This deposit will be forfeited if the objection is not
sustained.
Coombs Fair Awards:
First, Second and Third Place Winners in each fair category will be
indicated with a blue, red or yellow sticker on the fair entry tag
attached to each item. When exhibits are picked up after 5 pm on
Sunday, winners will claim their prize monies at the fair office,
along with a new Coombs Fair Certificate, to which their winning
stickers can be attached.
Plaques will be awarded for the most points in each of the following
categories If there are fewer than 3 entries in a category, the
plaque will be awarded at the discretion of the judges.

Section B: Poultry
Section C: Fruit, Vegetables, Junior Horticulture
Section D: Domestic Science Open & Junior
Section E: Needlecrafts Open, Senior Citizens & Junior
Section F: Arts & Crafts Open, Senior Citizen & Junior
Section G: Floral Open & Junior
Section H: Photography Open & Junior
